HOW IT WORKS

ANTIMICROBIAL

Immune cells need oxygen to attack invading bacteria. Studies have shown that well-oxygenated tissues are impervious to infection. Oxygen elution gets the oxygen exactly where it is needed in the wound to boost the immune response and eliminate surgical site infections.

OSTEOGENIC

The balance between bone resorption and deposition is controlled by the oxygen levels in the tissue. Oxygenated bone enhances the activity of osteoblasts leading to better anchorage of screws into bone.

ANGIOGENIC

Re-establishing blood supply to the wound is critical for healing. Studies have shown oxygenated tissues re-vascularize more quickly and more robustly.

OUR STORY

Oxygen elution technology was developed at Johns Hopkins to enable anatomical, 3D printed, cellularized bone grafts. While the timeline for that technology was decades away, clinicians recognized the potential of oxygen elution to help with their most pressing clinical orthopaedic challenge: surgical site infection, slow healing, and screw loosening. We've received tremendous excitement from hyperbaric physicians who recognize the unique ability of the technology to get therapeutic oxygen directly into the wound site for extended periods of time. We're looking for healthcare or orthopaedic partners to help bring this technology into the clinic.

OUR VISION

Healthcare needs to be convenient, affordable, and accessible. This requires the development of technologies that add therapeutic value while reducing costs. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy, while offering strong therapeutic benefits, only gets us half-way: it is logistically impractical to schedule the necessary 20-30 visits, unjustifiably expensive at $10,000 per course, and geographically inaccessible for many patients. Oxygen elution technology allows us to bring the therapeutic value of hyperbaric oxygen therapy and put it right into the implant. Every patient, every time; no infection, no hassles, no brainer. That's our vision for oxygen elution technology and why we believe it will be the gold standard for all orthopaedic anchors! 

TECHNOLOGY

Our patented process impregnates implants with oxygen utilizing specialized hyperbaric chambers. Following implantation the oxygen elutes from the surface of the implant to nourish the wound site while new vasculature supply grows. Oxygen delivery rates and durations can be carefully controlled giving surgeons precise control over wound oxygenation to optimize immune response to infection, accelerate healing, and improve screw anchoring. We've developed shipping and storage solutions to accommodate virtually any logistical needs.
